The most fundamental value of SDCmaterials is our ability to rapidly produce unique high value nano materials. This capability stems from our novel and patented Nano Particle Synthesis System which is rooted in proven DC plasma technology. The first operational system was deployed in 2005 at our development site in Tempe, Arizona. The key technical capabilities of the system are:

  • Rapid Screening - The system can be configured for rapid-turn, multi-variable, combinatorial R&D applications. One system can deliver up to 1000 discrete material samples per year.
  • Material Flexibility - The range of nanomaterials that can be synthesized with the system is virtually limitless. E.g.: oxide, mixed metal oxide, ceramic, metal and metal alloy nanopowders.
  • Particle Size Control - By effectively managing the various control points of the system, nano particle size can be optimized for a particular application.
  • Uniformity - Through overall system design and the various control points, particle size variation can be controlled to the requirements of the application.
  • Purity - The system is designed to provide an inert fabrication environment and can operate at or below 3 ppm residual oxygen on a continual basis.

One other critical attribute of the system is its ability to scale volume. Once the recipe for a particular material / application has been finalized, the same system used for Rapid Screening can be placed into a fixed configuration for commercial scale high volume manufacture of the desired nanomaterial.
